Overview

Experience the Cultural Zone of Manu National Park with our 5-Day Manu Jungle Trip Expedition. The park encompasses various elevations, from 4200 meters above sea level to the Amazon Basin plains, with creeks and valleys crisscrossing throughout.

The park is divided into three areas: the Restricted Use Zone, which is only accessible to researchers and features untouched forests and native communities; the Reserved Zone, which is open for both research and recreation; and the Recuperation Zone, dedicated to restoring areas previously affected by human activity.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Day 1: Cusco (3,300 m.a.) – Cloud Forest (1,700 m.a.l.) – Pilcopata Inn (600 m.a.s.

Day 1: Cusco (3,300 m.a.s.l.) to Pilcopata Inn (600 m.a.s.l.) via Cloud Forest (1,700 m.a.s.l.) We will depart from Cusco in the morning and drive through scenic valleys between the Andes mountains and charming rural communities. En route, we will visit the Lupaca culture’s pre-Incan tombs and the fascinating museum in the beautiful colonial city of Paucartambo. We will have lunch in the cloud forest, known for its endemic species such as the spectacled bear and the Peruvian national bird, the rooster of the rock, famous for its unique courtship ritual. We will observe orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and other flora and fauna until we reach Pilcopata Inn, where we will spend the night.

DAY 2

Day 2: Pilcopata – Amazon manu Lodge (450 m.a.l.)

After an early breakfast, we will take a walk to observe the forest’s wildlife, including monkeys and birds. We will then visit a coca plantation and a wildlife rescue center before traveling to Puerto Atalaya along the Alto Madre de Dios River at 500 meters above sea level. There we will take a boat and witness the diverse bird species such as herons, vultures, and cormorants until we arrive at Amazon Manu Lodge. We will bathe in the river, have lunch, and visit a swamp to observe birds such as toucans, woodpeckers, and macaws. At night, we will observe the alligators’ eyes before dinner and spend the night in the lodge.

DAY 3

Day 3: Amazon Manu Lodge (450 m.a.s.)

Early in the morning, we will board our boat and head to the macaw clay lick to see different species of parrots eating clay, rich in minerals to digest and eliminate toxins. After breakfast, we will take a forest walk for 2 to 3 hours and return to the lodge for lunch and rest or swim in the river. In the afternoon, we will visit Lake Machuwasi to observe birds and other animals such as monkeys and capybaras. We will take a nocturnal forest walk to find insects and amphibians and have dinner and spend the night in the lodge.

DAY 4

Day 4: Amazon manu Lodge – Cusco

After an early breakfast, we will observe hummingbirds of different species and take a 4-hour forest walk to appreciate the flora and fauna, including medicinal plants. We will have lunch and continue the walk, returning to the lodge for dinner and spend the night.

DAY 5

Return to Cusco

After breakfast, we will swim in the hot waters of Atalaya and take a boat back to Puerto Atalaya, where our car will be waiting for us to return to Cusco. We will have lunch on the way and arrive in Cusco around 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

We recommend the use of a duffel bag or backpack, whichever is easiest for you to carry. A good size daypack is also essential.
